It is a tragic fact of life that evil
people, if given authority over children or other vulnerable persons, will
take advantage of that situation. We see this in the sexual exploitation
of young children in foster homes, orphanages, schools and even in family
homes. We see it also in the abuse or other exploitation of adults who
find themselves in positions of powerlessness. In many cases either the
abuser or another party, such as the Government, a religious organization
or a school board, may be legally responsible to compensate victims of
such abuse. That is where Budden, Morris can help you.
Budden, Morris
has, since 1991, represented victims of such abuse and violence. This has
come to be the major focus of our practice and we have represented at
least three hundred men and women in legal actions throughout Canada.
These include cases of sexual and other forms of abuse committed by
teachers, priests, Christian Brothers, clerics from the Salvation Army and
other denominations, volunteer leaders, social workers, grandparents,
family acquaintances, foster parents, step-parents and even natural
parents. We have negotiated or received Court awards in excess of
$600,000.00 for individual clients and we have also negotiated what we
believe to be the largest group settlement in Canadian History (see Press
Clippings). In total, we have gained in excess of $25,000,000.00 on behalf
of our clients.
If you have been
abused, either as an adult or as a child, and believe you might be
entitled to make a legal claim for compensation, we would like to hear
from you. We will generally provide a free initial consultation, either in
person or by telephone, and in many cases we will provide representation
for you on a contingency basis (that is, we only get paid, as a percentage
of the final settlement, when the case is concluded, and will also handle
all case-related expenses while it is ongoing).
Budden,
Morris also collaborates with other law firms. If you are a lawyer with a
complex abuse-related file and you believe that our particular skills and
resources might be of assistance to you, please contact Geoffrey Budden or
Stuart Morris to discuss this matter further. |
